The Savannah Wedding of Julia Ragen and Andrew Barrett

Friday, July 16th, 2010

This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure of designing wedding flowers for one of the Ragen girls.  This local family is truly a joy to work with!  Now I’m ready for daughter #3!!

Photographers, Chia and Hon, did a fantastic job capturing this special day.  Thanks for sharing your beautiful images with us!!

Julia carried a beautiful bouquet of cream ‘Vendela’ roses with hints of soft pink spray roses.

Isn’t her niece precious?  This halo of soft pink spray roses couldn’t not have looked more perfect.

Her bridesmaids carried round fluffy bouquets of purple lisianthus.

Hi Ashley!

julia5

Julia and Andrew were married in the heart of downtown Savannah at Independent Presbyterian Church.

This large altar piece was designed onsite in IPC’s gorgeous stand.  We used a mixture of hydrangea, roses, stock, lilies, snapdragons, bells of ireland, ivy, curly willow and hanging green amaranthus.

julia7

The reception took place at The Savannah Yacht Club.  This glowing shot was taken from its river front lawn behind the club.

I loved the style of their reception flowers.  I call it ‘Garden Flair’.  They had a tremendous garden-like feel, but with the fresh modern flair of tropical flowers and foliage.  This buffet piece incorporates lilies, bell of ireland, hanging green amaranthus, monstera leaves, italian ruscus and curly willow with cymbidium orchids soaring up high.

Julia’s mother, Emmy, found these great ceramic bowls for our centerpieces.  The Garden Flair was achieved using lilies, bells of ireland, dendrobium orchids, tulip anthuriums and roses.

I love the hanging amaranthus on this cake!!

The Knot throws a Party for Savannah Wedding Vendors!

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Every bride loves The Knot magazine, so you can imagine how excited we were to have them come to Savannah and throw a party for all of Savannah’s wedding professionals.  They asked one of my favorite wedding planners Caroline Carter to lead the way!  And we were so honored to provide the flowers!

Here are some of the wonderful images that wedding photographer, Donna Von Bruening took…She really captured the evening quite well!  Thanks Donna!

knot1

The event was held at one of Savannah’s newest hotels, Avia, located right in the heart of City Market.  Its a favorite hotel of many brides and tourists.  Its fresh and modern, but still very warm and Southern.  As the professionals entered the lobby, they were greeted by the warm glow of floating candles in our Monet vases.  We have about 100 of these to rent out.

knot2

The main ballroom looked spectacular with our natural brown manzanita branches, hanging crystals and votives.  I love the linens and lucite chivari chairs that Caroline selected.  And StageFront did a fantastic job with the accent lighting.

knot3

Check out the strung Mambo roses!  A last minute addition to the design, but I think it was a really nice detail.

knot5

Here I am (on the left) with my very talented colleague, Donna Von Bruening, a wonderful photographer and founder of Savannah Wedding Professionals.   She is the one responsible for all of these wonderful photos!

knot6

I am not a big drinker at all, but I absolutely LOVED this cocktail, appropriately named The Blushing Bride.  I would highly recommend having Avia make it for your wedding.  What a perfect signature drink!

knot7

Yummy food provided by Avia.  I can’t remember what this was, but it was all delicious!

knot8

At the end of the evening, we celebrated on Avia’s private courtyard terrace.  Its a little slice of heaven, and there’s no other place like it in Savannah!  Below are some of the small cocktail table arrangements that we made.

Custom Cakes baked all of these wonderful treats.  And those aren’t real flowers on the cake, they are all handmade by Minette Rushing and her talented staff.  I wish I had a close up shot.  Some of the flowers had over a 100 blooms on them.

knot12

We all sampled some of Savannah Bee Company’s wonderful honey.  It was beautifully presented with cheese and berries.  It was absolutely delicious!  I would highly recommend it as an appetizer during your cocktail hour.  Their honey gifts make wonderful wedding favors as well.

Many thanks to Caroline Carter and her assistants for organizing such a successful party.  Its always a pleasure to work with you girls!

Pastel Flowers for a Savannah Beach Wedding

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

***We are so excited to announce that Nichole & Jason’s wedding was featured on

The SOUTHERN WEDDINGS MAGAZINE Daily Blog.

Take a peek here.***

I had such a great time working with Nichole Utecht and Jason Algra on their wedding.  They fell in love with so many natural elements in our flower shop–the fresh flowers, manzanita branches, natural grasses and lichen branches.  It was all the perfect backdrop for their Tybee Island wedding.  And Nicole Wickens with Green Door Photography did an amazing job capturing the moments.  To view more photos, check out her blog.  Thanks for the fabulous shots Nicole!

Her bridal bouquet was absolutely one of my favorites.  Our inspiration was the color of seashells.  We used peonies, garden roses, amaryllis, parrot tulips, lily of the valley and ranunculus.  I had no idea she was wearing these shoes, but wasn’t it a perfect match??

Jason’s boutonniere was a perfect mixture of ranunculus, green fern curls, feathers and green moss.

Bill (one of my fellow designers) and I set up this wedding on the back side of Tybee Island where its nice and quite.  We were there very early in the morning–7:30!  It was a perfect morning!  We created an ‘aisle’ with lichen branches, then enhanced it with natural grasses and manzanita branches.  I took these shots just before the guests arrived.

In between the set up and break down of the wedding, Bill and I went to the famous Breakfast Club and had a delicious breakfast.  I highly recommend it to anyone coming to Tybee.

“Thank you so very much for our gorgeous wedding flowers and beach decor!  Our wedding day could not have been more perfect and our photographer, along with me, and everyone else were totally smitten with my bouquet!”  –Nicole Utecht

The couple took advantage of our many photo ops around Savannah.  Green Door Photography took this one at the gorgeous entrance to Wormsloe Plantation.

Thanks so much Nicole and Jason for letting me be such a special part of your day!!

Savannah’s Premier Bridal Show

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Congratulations to Savannah Magazine for hosting their first bridal show at the Jepson Center this past February!  What a fabulous turnout!!  I partnered up with two other wedding colleagues and friends… Melissa Livingston with M Livingston Events and Emily McCarthy with emmajdesign.  The three of us had a wonderful time in our styling session creating the perfect booth to display each of our talents.  I, of course, did the flowers, Emily designed all of the paper products and Melissa pulled each table scape together with fabulous linens, china, chairs, etc.

Our first table had a preppy, nautical feel to it.  We created a set of colorful monochromatic centerpieces using yellow roses, tulips and asiatic lilies, and adorned the bride and groom’s chairs with hanging rose pomander balls.  We have 100 of these tall vases to rent to our brides and often fill them with floating candles.

At our flower shop, we see so many brides that are selecting ‘eggplant’ as one of their wedding colors, so we created this centerpiece (to the right) to complement this color scheme.  We used lavender roses, green and pink hydrangea, green trick dianthus and pops of very dark grapes, plums and black berries.  Its a great way of using the color ‘eggplant’ without making everything too dark.

The focal point of our booth was the Well Wishes Tree created from our 5′ tall manzanita branches.  We love using these branches as table centerpieces with hanging crystals and votive candles as well.

Melissa selected all of our linens and chairs from Beachview Tent Rentals.  They have a fabulous selection and are wonderful to work with.

Our third table scape had an elegant feel to it using golds, whites and greens.  We used jumbo white hydrangea, open spray roses, green amaryllis with shorter gold manzanita branches and hanging crystals  This type of centerpiece can be used as a ceremony arrangement as well.

I had a wonderful time working with these talented ladies. Please check out their sites!   Thanks Melissa and Emily!!

And many many thanks to my friend and colleague Donna Von Bruening for stopping by the show and taking some of these wonderful photographs for me.

Inspired Reality- Jekyll Island: Part 2

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Blue Door Photography and event designer Liz Demos teamed up again for this spectacular wedding photo shoot down at Crane Cottage on Jekyll Island.  Liz asked us to design the bridal bouquet and the boutonnieres, and then she hauled buckets full of our loose flowers and designed them in her own eclectic containers.  To view more images of this photo shoot, please visit Blue Door’s blog.

We designed the bridal bouquet out of many beautiful ingredients: mini callas, china mums, herbs, nigella pods, scabiosa, seeded eucalyptus and alstroemeria.

Love these non-floral boutonnieres created out of scabiosa pods, snow berry, seeded eucalyptus and grass explosion.
